Friends!

They made her cards.
A couple weeks ago our little bird got pretty sick.  She came down with a virus called RSV and it's a nasty and often very dangerous cold.  When Lu was under 3 she was considered medically fragile enough, by her doctors, to qualify for a special shot that would weaken the RSV virus should she catch it.  So, for the previous 3 winters I would take Lu to the Dr. every month from Nov-Mar to get the painful, make-my-bird-cry-hard,  little shot.  There is no medical evidence supporting the shot's success after the age of 3 so this year was the first year she didn't receive them.   When Lu came down with a cold this time, it was the sickest I have ever seen her- nonstop coughing, fevers, vomiting, crazy congestion, and no appetite.  I truly hoped it wasn't RSV. But it was confirmed to be when i drove her to see her ped - they stayed late just to fit Lu in! So for 4 tough days and nights we fought (with all our special equipment) that RSV bug and thankfully on about day 5 she kicked it's main booty out the front door!  She did really really well recovering so fast, so thankful, so proud, strong bird!  Scout got it too but it wasn't a big deal for a soldier like Scout.

Candy loves to snuggle lu!

RSV is very contagious so Lucia's Dr. suggested we keep her home from school another week while she was still recovering...so she was absent almost a full two weeks.
Last Friday her new teacher (new as of January and she is so GREAT) Miss Hanna called to tell me how much everyone missed Lubird.  They missed her so much they made her cards!!!!!!! Some of the kids were worried that Lubird would go all weekend without her cards so Miss Hanna called to see if I could come pick them up before the weekend.  I told Jason and he eagerly left work a little early to get them.  Drawings of Lu and her friends, some birds, I miss you Lu, I love you Lubird, get well Lu-all super cute, simple, funny and warm fuzzy.  No doubt it made us teary to feel the love.

Our bird.  She sits amongst her peers in her special seats.  She is there to make friends. She is there to learn.  She is there to love and to be loved.  She does not poke fun.  She will not hurt a soul.  She cares not what you wear, how you look or your faults.  She is just a bird that wants to be a part of the group and SHE IS! She has friends at school that LOVE HER, and MISS HER when she is away, and friends that say LUBIRD IS MY FRIEND.

Thank you Miss Hanna. Thank you for the cards, thank you for taking Lu down the slide during recess!!!- thank you for truly loving and caring for our girl.  And thank you for taking pictures of the kids bringing Lucia a tea party to her stander tray this week!  So cute!
We are the proud parents of a special little girl that seems to be doing just fine by herself in her first year of pre-school, making friends, sharing her light and even receiving her own special cards.

We are praying for two of Lucia's friends who are very sick- little Sophia Dickens - RSV that turned into pneumonia and Micheala Frederick who has had an ongoing infection- both in the hospital for weeks. Get better soon girls!  We love you!
